So much great stuff at this year’s winter Namm. 2012 now brings us an Analog Synth called the MiniBrute from Arturia. This is another little synth to compete with the Roland GAIA and the Novation Ultranova. I need to get my hands on this promising product to see if it can do better than the GAIA and the Ultranova and find out how it compares with say the Access Virus Ti2. Arturia states that it has a pure analog signal path and several innovative features. Have a look at this tasty You Tube clip:-

They do not make ’em like they used to. I just love these albums to bits. I feel like spending a complete chill-out day listening to these 74 tracks as a blast from the past – complete magic. If you haven’t heard the following nine albums – give them a try- it will give you a really good idea as to what the Rock scene was like over 40 years ago. And what about the Album covers – Wow?

INTRODUCTION

I have often thought (and often said) that finding the right keyboard for performing ‘Live’ is difficult in as much you have to make some form of compromise between having a very playable instrument and the sounds you need. An option for you could be to choose a very playable piano such as the Casio Privia (that I recently reviewed) and use a sound module with it. The Roland Sonic Cell sound module has been around since 2007 but I have not had the chance to get my hands on one up until now, so I thought I would investigate and see how useful this little unit could be to the ‘Live’ performer in this circumstance.

I love Nord and I love Drums so the “Nord Drum” caught my eye. This is one of the adds from Nord’s website:-

Namm is only nine days away and I don’t really know why but I am quite excited about it this year. I find Namm very much like Christmas, it is a big build, you can’t wait and sometimes you feel a little let down but as the dust settles there is always something you love about it.

Nord have been involved with drums since they started. They gave us the famous ddrums and it was a great shame when they stopped producing them. Their early products go back to 1983. I am not sure whether this advertisment is going to mean the release of a digital drum kit or a drum machine. This image looks like the latter and I can imagine the amalgamation of their drum and synth skills moulded into one like Dave Smith’s Tempest but I will just have to wait and see next week.
