Have you heard Black Lab? – Have you heard of Black Lab?

Black Lab are an American alternative rock band that have released four main albums and will be very soon releasing their fifth album. The multi- talented Paul Durham who is the lead vocalist is extremely excited about this and can’t wait for everyone to hear it.

I have followed Black Lab’s strange career since their success of having one of their tracks as part of the Spider-Man soundtrack. As soon as I heard this powerful song Learn to Crawl, I was hooked and wanted to hear more and discovered they had a fantastic album to go with this track, the album called Your Body Above Me not only had the power and distortion elements, dirty drums and awesome vocals but had such a melodic element to them that set them aside from many other rock bands. For me, I loved everything about this album. The lyrics were great, the hooks very catchy but combine a grungy sound with melodic and superb vocals and you have something very special.

Have a listen to one of my favourites tracks from 1997 with a beautiful smooth sounding guitar track:-

As a tribute to a great man, here is my favourite track – Gerry Rafferty – Waiting for the Day taken from the famous album City to City which went to No 1 in the Album charts in the US in 1978.

Gerry Rafferty (16 April 1947 – 4 January 2011) was a Scottish singer and songwriter. Most people remember him for the song “Baker Street”, but I still love this one – Give it a listen:-

Another new band that I keep hearing about, especially on Facebook are The Green Children. They are building up thousands of followers, so they must be doing something right. This is their track Black Magic (Part III). If you want to sing along, here are the lyrics:-

Flickering eyes in the dark No telling who is who
Still I know that these cold eyes They belong to you
Already crushed and forgotten What I came to do
And before I even know of it I am walking straight to you
Black Magic How do you do it Black Magic How do you do it

Locked in your encaging grip You hands are in my hair
Struggling to recall my past The memories disappear
Convinced by your whispers in my ear I follow by your touch
You must have put a spell on me Cause I want you way too much
Black Magic How do you do it Black Magic How do you do it

Stop, they are calling As I’m falling in love again
Numb by your charms and my weakened heart I’ve no choice but to surrender
How do you do it?

Your eyes in water, deep blue water Your lips are on fire, you challenge my desire
Your eyes in water, deep blue water Your lips are on fire, you challenge my desire
Your Black Magic Black Magic How do you do it Black Magic How do you do it
Black Magic How do you do it Black Magic Hey, hey Hey, hey Hey, hey How do you do it?

I thought it was about time that I had some more music on my music Site and when I came across this new band called The Dowsers, I thought I would give them a listen. As I enjoyed watching and listening to the band recording their track “The Last Call” at Kitchen Studio, I am sure that I saw the Korg Kronos being used in there and sounding excellent. Great Track – Great up and coming new Band – Have a listen see what you think, I think I will see what else they do. It would make an excellent CD if all the tracks were like this one:-

They do not make ’em like they used to. I just love these albums to bits. I feel like spending a complete chill-out day listening to these 74 tracks as a blast from the past – complete magic. If you haven’t heard the following nine albums – give them a try- it will give you a really good idea as to what the Rock scene was like over 40 years ago. And what about the Album covers – Wow?

Here is something interesting from Keyboard magazine – “Keyboard Presents Synth Gods”. This book is about artists who did much more than just play synthesizers – they changed the course of music history and inspired generations. It has in-depth profiles of leading keyboard players such as Jan Hammer, Wendy Carlos, Rick Wakeman, and Stevie Wonder, this book delves into how these new, untested boxes of circuitry captured the imagination of these legendary artists.

You can read about the design of some of the most famous synthesizers ever made, models from masterminds such as Dr. Robert Moog, Dave Smith, and Ray Kurzweil and find out what made them sound unique, what timeless music was created on them, and how you can re-create some of these sounds using synths you already have! – sounds good.
