It has been over three years since I reviewed the Traps Electronic Drum kit E400. I found this You Tube clip above of an A400 Traps Kit that really gives you a great idea of how Traps Drums  sound. No it is not a Roland TD30 kit but when you consider the cost difference you really do get a lot for your money here.

Drummers who have bought this kit have said it is great if you consider updating the heads and perhaps buy a better hi-hat stand but other than that they love what they are getting for the cost.

I had a look on the Absolute Music website to see what they are currently selling and found twenty items of kits and accessories, some of which are at reduced prices. The one that caught my eye was an A400 kit which includes :-

a snare drum, 10- 12- and 14-inch toms and a 20-inch kick drum, a Hi-hat stand, kick pedal and drumsticks included. Also comes with Paiste 101 cymbals :- 14-inch hi-hat, 16-inch crash, 14-inch crash/ride. The price of the kit has been reduced from £449 to £399.

They also have the new  Traps EX500 Electronic Drum Kit with Realistic Mesh Heads which has Dual Zone chokeable cymbals, Dual Zone snare and tom drums, Triple ply mesh heads, 12 inch snare, 10,12 and 14 inch toms and a 20 inch bass drum and good quality hardware. It also has on-board recording, 74 voices (inc Drums, Percussion, SFX and more),40 Preset and 59 User Kits,120 Preset and 100 User Songs,Built in 4-Band Master EQ,USB,Midi in and Out. Unlike other electronic drums you get a standard sized set of drums: dual trigger 12 inch snare, dual trigger 10 inch tom, 12 inch tom and 14 inch tom all for £549 what great value.

New Native Instruments – Maschine Expansion – Magnate Hustle

native_instruments_maschine_expansion_magnate_hustle

I really like the sound of this new expansion from Native Instruments designed for chart – ready urban Pop, it has some qualities that anyone with a Maschine is going to find exceptionally useful. I also love the idea that the drums in MAGNATE HUSTLE were designed and tweaked by major label producers that know how to make a hit.

Native Instruments state that MAGNATE HUSTLE is “a versatile set of punchy samples plus four kits loaded with all-new Drum Synth presets deliver the glitz of modern pop, R&B, and hip hop – a larger-than-life sound that explodes from your speakers”. I am inclined to believe this to be true but you can decide for yourself by listening to the demos at their site.

For 44 Euros, you get 53 Drum Kits, 7 Full Projects, 1304 Samples, 41 Massive Presets, 21 Multisample Instruments and 24 Drumsynth presets providing you with a massive set of drums, synths, and guitar licks and chords. check it out today at :- Native Instruments

simmons_stryke6_ipad_drum_controller

Simmons have certainly been around a few years now with their history of electronic drums. Makes me wonder if Roland would have invented the V-Drums if it wasn’t for Simmons. Simmons have some great ideas and in our new world of everything small, compact, cheaper and competative, they have announced a new drum controller called Stryke6..

Stryke6 is the first ever iPad controller that Simmons tells us it gives you a full drum kit playing experience. It has six velocity-sensitive pads plus two foot pedals for kick and hi-hat control and its small size is perfect for playing on the move.

What is nice is the App is free and you connect your controller to your iPad. The App has a good range of sounds or alternatively via USB connect to any computer to trigger Drum sounds such as EZ Drummer, Garage Band, Logic, Ableton Live etc.

It has colour coded Pads ach with colored LED light ringsand is ideal for practicing, even if you are on the move. Drum sticks are included, and it comes with connections for Lightning and 30-pin iPads, as well as a USB port.

Simmons Stryke6 is available now for US $129.99.

iZotope & BT – BreakTweaker Beat Machine – Namm 2014

BreakTweaker is a software beat machine to use with your DAW and is powered by a Sequencer,a Generator and a MicroEdit Engine. Izotope have teamed up with BT again to bring you BT’s patented micro edit technology based on pioneering rhythmic sound design research. They say that the aim of this software is to get you to change the way you think about rhythm and you can split a sound up into potentially thousands of tiny slices and altering the way they are played back – how good is that? See for yourself on the Youtube clip above, about halfway through the clip you are going to go …….WOW!

Arturia Spark 2 – Namm 2014

arturia-spark2-namm-2014

I love my Spark, so I really delighted that Arturia have updated it further with their new version which really gives you a new look and a new feel which is just what you want from a Drum Maschine.

Namm seems to have as many Drum related products as it does guitars. Perhaps that is a bit of an exageration but maybe it just me that is drawn to all these new drum machines spoiling us for choice. In comparison to say the drum maschines from Elektron, this is a much cheaper option as a hybrid hardware/software instrument but it is just as interesting and a quarter of the price. I can’t wait to try this out.

Elektron Analog Rytm Drum Machine at Namm 2014

The clip above gives you a great idea of what this new Drum Maschine from Elektron is all about. Like all of Elektron gear it is a little expensive but you are paying for a quality build, fuctionality and extensive controls and connections but paying out $1542 / 1389 Euros on a drum maschine may push your expectations very high.

From the makers of the Machinedrum you get an 8-voice analog drum machine with sample support with 12 velocity and pressure-sensitive pads and the famous Elektron sequencer.
