Another Freebie for you and you don’t want to miss this one. That great company Voxengo have released and updated Boogex Version 2.0 VST/AU guitar amp free plugin. It has loads more new features and an improved amp algorithm and a completely overhauled GUI.

This sound shaping plugin now has a similar interface to other Voxengo releases and has things like undo and redo history and a preset manager. You get low enough latency (close to zero) to be used as a realtime processor, and you can apply any cabinet impulse response you like (a selection comes included). You can get nice heavy distorted sounds but also slight “jazzy” saturation sounds. It also includes a reverberation module derived from its own OldSkoolVerb reverb. You could also use it as a saturator for your drum sounds.

The installation of Boogex is very straightforward, just copy the “dll” into your VstPlugins folder. You can download Boogex for free from the Voxengo website (7.0 MB download size). It’s available in 32/64-bit VST/VST3/AU plugin formats for PC and Mac.

Korg KEYTAR RK-100S – Namm 2014

You may just remember the original RK-100 from 1984 and nearly thirty years later, the RK has been resurrected by Korg. However, they have significantly improved the look with beautiful curved wooden surfaces in three colours (red, black and white) and made it less heavy with a 37 note slim keyboard. It also has a built-in analog modeling sound generator.

With two ribbon controllers, an arpeggiator, and a vocoder, and favorite” buttons this looks great fun. The long ribbon controller can be used instead of the keyboard to play a freely specified range of pitches and scales, and can also be used to control the pitch or filter in dramatic ways. The RK-100S will ship in June priced at £695.

Well what a great time I had in Frankfurt, we have seen the keyboards and drums in a bit of detail but there was some other memories to keep of this visit such as the Rhine, the Bose lorry, the Light show, the girls, the buildings and the guitars. Oh I nearly forgot, I have a small clip of Monolith – what a great performance and sound with their fantastic talent with midi controllers. Read on to see the clip.

Well this is what you may have seen at last years NAMM show. I wonder if there will be a repeat performance this year from the lovely Iron Maidens at Namm 2013. We don’t have much in the way of guitar stuff on this website so I thought as a great advert to Roland’s GT100 pedal board, many Boss pedals and Boss eBand Audio Player with effects. There are some great Riffs and lead breaks as the girls jam along but who in their right mind is watching the guitar playing ??????

I don’t have much on Guitars but I came across three excellent images on Facebook today that were Guitar related and one includes the very famous Jimi Hendrix. The one from Roland really captured my eye. I found it on Roland Danmark’s Facebook page and the other two were a bit funny so I thought I would share them with you just in case you haven’t seen them – a big thank you to Roland and the people that posted these – great stuff:-

I think with this image, it should apply to keyboard players – What do you think?

Here is something a little bit different that can capture the sounds of India and I am sure will bring out the Hippy in you (Love and Peace Man). It is the new stomp box pedal from Electro-Harmonix called the Ravish Sitar Pedal and it should be available in the next few weeks. With this pedal you can transform your guitar into the harmonic and dynamic flexibility of a sitar.

Electro-Harmonix state that they have streamlined the essence of the sitar into a compact enclosure that offers a polyphonic lead voice and tunable sympathetic string drones that dynamically react to your playing. You can also create your own custom scales for the sympathetic strings while you set the decay time for the lead voice. There are two expression pedal inputs which allow you to bend the pitch of the lead voice and control the volume of the sympathetic strings simultaneously. These unique controls offer the player the ability to program the Ravish to become a totally unique and organic instrument unto itself. The Ravish is a truly new design with the flexibility to be a crossover tonal wonder.

Well here is a Blast from the Past. I am writing this review because despite the fact that I have written to Roland and Boss on the matter of upgrading this machine, 6 years have passed and this is still their top drum machine – why is that? Whilst I know I like hardware drum machines, a great many people prefer to use software but this machine was aimed at a slightly different market – the guitarist. The Roland Boss DR-880 is much more than a drum machine; it is also also partly a bass guitar synthesizer and partly guitarist effects package with built-in COSM Drive/Amp models and effects such as chorus, delay, reverb, wah, crunch, and others. Add to this a direct input connection for a guitar, a built-in chromatic tuner and a Composition function for drum and bass sounds, guitar players just love this and you can’t blame them. You don’t have to be a guitarist to make use of this unit as it can be used by any musician wanting a drum and bass guitar backing. It is really an excellent tool to jam along with providing you with both rhythmic and melodic ideas for song creation.
