Well welcome to Namm week 2015 and Nord have just announced some familiar looking keyboards. Yes they look like all the other Nord keyboards but it is actually the new Nord Electro 5 series.

They come in three types, the Nord Electro 5d 61 note, the Nord Electro 5d 73 note and the hammer action Nord Electro 5HP 88 note. So what is the difference between the Series 5 and the previoous 4 series? Well Nord have made enhancements to every sound-generating section. They have improved its user-interface and functionality. Nord tell us that the Electro 5 series keyboards are more refined, live-focused, flexible than any of their previous models.

Nord introduced the Electro in 2001 and it has been used my many players over the world who crave for that authentic emulations of classical electro mechanical and acoustic instruments in a portable package.

The new Nord Electro 5 series now feature 1GB of Piano Sample memory. The subtle but effective Sympathetic String Resonance technology derived from the Nord Piano is now implemented in the Electro 5 giving you such realism to your performance when you use the Grand or Upright pianos.

The Nord Electro 5 Organ section features a new Principal Pipe Organ mode as well as the classic Tone Wheel simulation and the highly acclaimed Rotary Speaker simulation of a vintage 122 unit from the fantastic Nord C2D Combo Organ.

A new B3 Tone Wheel Bass feature gives you the classic 16” and 8“ bass drawbars in the left hand and can even be used with the Piano and Sample section for a thick and meaty bottom. Both the Electro 5D 61/5D 73 feature physical Drawbars and can accommodate the Nord Half-Moon switch with stop/slow/fast modes.

The new Nord Electro 5 features a dedicated Sample Synth section with expanded memory for the Nord Sample Library (256 MB) and additional controls for attack, decay/release and dynamics (filter/velocity). The Nord Sample Library features a broad selection of free sounds from acclaimed sample producers as well as exclusively licensed sounds of the legendary Mellotron and Chamberlin.

If you add a new OLED screen, new set list feature and further improvements in its alread great effects section, it is starting to sound like that “I want one” feeling

If you are a big Nord keyboard user you may well think that the best just got better. If you are going to the Namm show at the end of the week have a play on the new Electro 5 which you will find at booth #6464.
