Roland FA-06 and Roland FA-08 Workstation

Roland -FA06-FA08-Music-Workstation-2014

I was really looking forward to finding out what new products Roland would be announcing today for their first quarter of 2014 just prior to Namm 2014.

At first, I was a little disappointed as their are not many and their didn’t appear to be anything ‘new’ in the true sense of the word. On closer inspection their are a couple of interesting additions and to start with I want to have a look at the new FA synth workstations that come in two sizes the FA-06 (61 key) and the weighted action FA-08 (88 note).

Roland have decided to streamline their workstations for efficiency of workflow. I really wanted to hear some new sounds. The You tube clip above gives you a convincing argument that this is the case but Roland state that the 2000 sounds come from their flagship INTEGRA-7, which is OK to some extent, but is this just recycling? They say it packed with effects, but is this any different from the current Integra-7 effects? Apparently, you will not find this level of effects on any other Roland product.

I do like the sound of it from their clip above and it does seem to have quite a few real-time controls. They say that “The sequencer features simple operation and non-stop loop recording, letting you capture songs and ideas as they come and export them as multitrack data to use with your DAW”. That sounds a great idea and is just what you need for a workstation.

The 88 note version has Ivory Feel-G Keyboard and the onboard sampler is based on their famous SP-404SX. this has 16 pads of 4 banks and direct recording/playback via SDHC cards. They are vey stylish in looks – very 2014 and start up time (just to annoy Korg) is very fast

I will try this out as soon as one comes into my nearest store and I will let you know what I think. The UK price is FA-08 £1529 and FA-06 £975
