I hear a lot about how to get your mix to sound better but it is an art and can take years to master. There are youtube clips to assist you, some that confuse you, some that sound convincing but still do not get you to where you want to be. Maybe one day the computer will do it all for you and make all your decisions for you to compensate for your room, your ears, your judgement and understanding.

Until that day, many of us that do our utmost to get a great sounding mix, need all the help we can get. This is why there will always be new products like the one that Audified have just announced. They call it “MixChecker” which is a plug-in to transform your studio monitors into classic reference monitors.

What you do with MixChecker is insert it as the last plug-in in your master track on your DAW. Audified say that their MixChecker is the new mixing assistant plug-in designed to take all the pain out of checking mixes with no more time wasted burning CDs to listen to in your car, going back into the studio to tweak the mix again and then having to repeat the process time and again.

MixChecker performs a quick round of tests in seconds. This allows you to pinpoint exactly where the problems are and make corrections instantly. The layout of MixChecker is designed into two sections. The first is “Simulation” which provides you with access to acoustic models of several consumer devices and classic reference monitors. All you have to do is select the device you want to check the sound of your mix on. Audified have worked hard to measure the behaviour and frequency responses of all the available devices in laboratory conditions to create models that are true and faithful, MixChecker is designed so that you can hear what they hear.

However, not all studio monitors deliver a flat frequency response, this is why you need the next section which is “Compensation Control” so that you can inform MixChecker that you are using a basic 5” or 8” speakers or headphones. If you are lucky to have high-quality studio monitors then you should simply select “Off”.

Cost of MixChecker is $149.00 USD and is available from Audified’s online shop for MACs and Windows in 32 and 64-bit format and supports AAX, AU, VST2 and VST3 – Check it out on their 30 day free trial.
