It is strange but as soon as someone has an idea about something, it is not long before someone else has implemented it. I don’t know how many times I have been asked whether different Music Apps can work with each other and up to now, I have given the same answer – “Unfortunately no”.

Now there is something very clever called Audiobus which is basically an app audio routing system where you can connect your Audiobus-compatible music apps together, just like virtual cables. Hopefully, in time Audiobus will become an Industry Standard whereby all Music Apps use it.

Have a look at that famous Jordan Rudess who loves playing with his Apps:-

It looks very simple and user-friendly and you can easily connect the output of one Audiobus-compatible app into the input of another. Use Audiobus to play a synthesizer live into a looper or multi-track recorder, or use one app to manipulate the live output of another.

The main Apps that can currently make use of this are :- Rebirth for iPad, JamUp, JamUp Pro. NLog Synth Pro, NLog MIDI Synth, Sunrize, Loopy, Loopy HD, SoundPrism Pro, MultiTrack DAW, sir Sampleton, FunkBox, ThumbJam, DrumJam, Glitchbreaks and Orphion – with more on the way.

I love the fact that Audiobus will let you play the drum sounds you like in one app and record them in another app, all while keeping the drums in time. Or it could let you play your actual guitar through one app to apply an effect and output it in the sampler of another app. Unfortunately Audiobus needs either iPad 2, iPhone 4S, OR Later. Check it out – like many Apps its a great price and a great product.
