Here is something that caught my eye, not because it is a Roland / Boss product but simply because of what the person is doing with it. Watch Youngr in the youtube clip above. I know this sort of thing has been done before but he really demonstrates a variety of skills with using technology, playing various instruments and singing – great stuff.

The Boss RC-202 is a tiny but powerful little unit that I am sure will be great for club performers, electronic musicians and beatboxers. It is based on their RC-505 Loop Station which everyone loved but whilst it is just a two-track it does have a whole load of new features. Four Input FX and four Track FX are available at once, and loops can be saved to memories in real time. It is therefore ideal for looping musicians who have their hands occupied with guitar, keyboards, and other instruments like Youngr on the youtube clip.

Roland seems to do things in quarters and for the second quarter of 2013 just shortly before Musikmesse they have released a few products. The one that caught my eye was the new Boss RC-505 Loop Station. The RC-505 is incredible eye-catching with its colourful display of hands-on controls.

What is the RC-505 Loop Station? Well yes you guessed it is a Looper for you to create phrases, infact five phrases that can all play at the same time. It has some great effects and is full of rhythmic fun.

For each of the five tracks you have dedicated buttons to record, overdub, play or stop as it easily grabs your performance with everything at your fingertips including volume faders, great on board effects (21 input effects and 25 DJ/sampler-style track FX) and 85 rhythms available. What I found remarkable here is, on just one track you can get up to three hours of stereo recording – Wow

At a price of £449 the Roland Boss RC-505 Loop Station it is looking very tempting.

Well this is what you may have seen at last years NAMM show. I wonder if there will be a repeat performance this year from the lovely Iron Maidens at Namm 2013. We don’t have much in the way of guitar stuff on this website so I thought as a great advert to Roland’s GT100 pedal board, many Boss pedals and Boss eBand Audio Player with effects. There are some great Riffs and lead breaks as the girls jam along but who in their right mind is watching the guitar playing ??????

Musikmesse 2012 Boss VE-5 Vocal Performer

Roland and Boss have certainly released a few products at this year’s Musikmesse in Frankfurt like the new Boss VE-5 Vocal Performer. It looks like it has some similarities with the TC Helicon range of products. Here is a You tube clip to give you some idea:-

INTRODUCTION

Well here is a Blast from the Past. I am writing this review because despite the fact that I have written to Roland and Boss on the matter of upgrading this machine, 6 years have passed and this is still their top drum machine – why is that? Whilst I know I like hardware drum machines, a great many people prefer to use software but this machine was aimed at a slightly different market – the guitarist. The Roland Boss DR-880 is much more than a drum machine; it is also also partly a bass guitar synthesizer and partly guitarist effects package with built-in COSM Drive/Amp models and effects such as chorus, delay, reverb, wah, crunch, and others. Add to this a direct input connection for a guitar, a built-in chromatic tuner and a Composition function for drum and bass sounds, guitar players just love this and you can’t blame them. You don’t have to be a guitarist to make use of this unit as it can be used by any musician wanting a drum and bass guitar backing. It is really an excellent tool to jam along with providing you with both rhythmic and melodic ideas for song creation.
