Here is something FREE that you maybe interested in, three plugins to spice up your recorded songs. These are called Abletune Knobs and they seem similar to the Waves OneKnob series (except they are Free) in that they blend and map a number of parameters to one knob allowing you to get quick instant results. Have a listen in the YouTube clip above.

Abletunes Knobs are described as follows:-

Drive: Distortion unit that delivers some nasty wide-band distortion (stereo). Great for when you quickly want to add some tone and color to your sound. Sounds good on drum groups and percussion tracks, adds grit to bass lines, leads, keys, you name it.

Space: Mid-sized room reverb (stereo). Pretty bright one, creating a mid-sized space, somewhere in between a large room and a small hall. Works well on almost anything, from percussion to synths and acoustic guitars.

Attack: Simplified transient shaper (stereo) with only ATTACK section of the waveform being affected. Adds bite to the drum loops, enhances percussive transients, makes guitar solos sound more solid and confident to name a few applications examples.

Abletunes Knobs are compatible with all major DAWs

audified_mixchecker

I hear a lot about how to get your mix to sound better but it is an art and can take years to master. There are youtube clips to assist you, some that confuse you, some that sound convincing but still do not get you to where you want to be. Maybe one day the computer will do it all for you and make all your decisions for you to compensate for your room, your ears, your judgement and understanding.

Until that day, many of us that do our utmost to get a great sounding mix, need all the help we can get. This is why there will always be new products like the one that Audified have just announced. They call it “MixChecker” which is a plug-in to transform your studio monitors into classic reference monitors.

voxengo-boogex-v2

Another Freebie for you and you don’t want to miss this one. That great company Voxengo have released and updated Boogex Version 2.0 VST/AU guitar amp free plugin. It has loads more new features and an improved amp algorithm and a completely overhauled GUI.

This sound shaping plugin now has a similar interface to other Voxengo releases and has things like undo and redo history and a preset manager. You get low enough latency (close to zero) to be used as a realtime processor, and you can apply any cabinet impulse response you like (a selection comes included). You can get nice heavy distorted sounds but also slight “jazzy” saturation sounds. It also includes a reverberation module derived from its own OldSkoolVerb reverb. You could also use it as a saturator for your drum sounds.

The installation of Boogex is very straightforward, just copy the “dll” into your VstPlugins folder. You can download Boogex for free from the Voxengo website (7.0 MB download size). It’s available in 32/64-bit VST/VST3/AU plugin formats for PC and Mac.

Native Instruments Free Plugin Replika

native-instruments-replika

It is nice to receive a free gift especially at this time of year and from a great company call Native Instruments. This freebie is a streamlined delay effect with two delay modes and a powerful diffusion algorithm. Native Instruments tell us that it is very easy to use – that’s a good start and it has a resonant filter and classic phaser built in – sounding good to me already. You need to download it before the end of the year to get it free because in the new year it will cost you the usual 44 Euros.

REPLIKA gives you three distinct delay algorithms. ‘Modern’ to give you that crystal clear digital delay. ‘Vintage’ with the John Wayne Grit that you used to find in old Studios. Lastly is ‘Diffusion’ which is lost somewhere between a delay and a reverb. You can even adjust your signal’s placement in the mix with normal, wide, and ping pong stereo modes.

Native Instruments inform us that Replika requires graphics hardware support for OpenGL 2.1 – if you see any issues on your computer, please download and install the latest drivers for your GPU. This can be necessary even if Windows reports them as up to date.

Here is a great review from Saintjoe – he always does an excellent job:-

waves-vitamin-vst-plugin

Waves has just released the new Vitamin plugin which is a multiband harmonic enhancer and tone-shaping plugin. They tell us that it will make your tracks or mix sound powerful and full of spark. This is done apparently by Vitamin mixing an enriched version with the original signal.

I thought I would give this a try as it was half-price at present and you could get a further 10% discount from one of their discount codes. The price will go up to $199 soon.

native-instruments-maschine2-software

Well its the 1 November 2013 and you can download the new Native Instruments Maschine Software Version 2.0. I know there is also a new lovely looking Maschine hardware controller called the Maschine Studio but my bet is there are more folk out there (like me) who have decided to pay the $99 / 99 Euro upgrade price to upgrade to version 2.0 using their existing controller.

Getting to grips with the new software is always a worry and the installation is large and time-consuming but hopefully at the end of it, we all have something very special. I will be making another page to collect some useful You Tube clips to help you and I get started with this beasty. Check the ‘Free Stuff’ menu under ‘Maschine World’ shortly for some great clips, sounds, kits and patterns.

izotope-nectar-elements-vocal-software

Well I think this is worth a look. You can currently get 70% off of Izotope Nectar Elements Vocal Package.

If you need some help with your vocal sound this great little plug-in could be exactly what you are looking for. It has been designed for you to get some great results quickly. This is achieved by loading one of Nectar’s professional Style presets. They come in different genres like Rock, Pop, Folk, Soul, and Voice Over & Dialogue. If you want you can then customize your sound with its controls such as Presence, Drive, and Grit. You may also want to fix a few annoying problems like removing that horrible “Ess” sound.

Izotope have for a short time reduced their Izotope Nectar Elements Vocal Package by 70 %, this is because they are about to release version 2 of Nectar. Version 1 of Elements is such a great price at only £29.00 you need to rush out and get yours now – I have

audio-damage-mangleverb-plug-in

There are Plug-Ins and Plug-Ins but personally I like something a bit different. You get to the point where you have many reverbs, filters, gates and all types of shapers but what if you could put them all in a bag and mix them all up to create something new? Well it looks like Audio Damage have achieved it with Native Instruments Monark-looking new plug-in called Mangleverb which will bring together a silky reverb, sexy filters, something to keep your transients in shape, a low pass filter gate as well as a rhythmic gate and a VCA nicely syncing in time. But imagine these all mixed together.

Whether you are Windows user or a MAC it has sensibly been designed as a 64 Bit Plug-in but more importantly it is very easy to use and achieve remarkable results with its mean drive circuit giving you all the grit you will need. At $49 from Audio Damage it looks like a must-have to me. Have a look and listen to this :-
